This is the what you see on your Windows Phone 8 device lockscreen when music is playing. Basically, it’s a small black portion of the top (with volume level, controls, artist name, and song title) over whatever you have set as your wallpaper.
Then lets look at what iOS and Android is doing.
My proposal is simple, get rid of the black background, and whenever there is an album art available, let it take over the lockscreen wallpaper. If not, simply display the wallpaper. How hard can it be? I mean apps can already take over the lockscreen, like Bing images, Facebook, Tumblr, etc.
Certainly makes telling what song it is at a glance much easier. Of course I can understand some who might not like/want this, so it will be better if there is an option to turn this on/off in the lockscreen settings menu.

Okay, I’ll admit that this is a very very minor thing compared to other features that are missing (quick settings, notification centre, individual volume controls, etc etc). But that doesn’t mean it’s not important. If Microsoft is truly keen on staying in the game, they have to make sure no stone is left unturned.
